The Importance of a Will: Why You Need One

Some people have wills while others do not. They might not be worried about their things when they are gone. They might think that they do not have enough money to worry about having a will. However, there are many reasons that a will is important.

If you have children, you need a will so that they are taken care of. A will assigns people to care for your children as guardians. It also explains how your money can be used to take care of them.

If you have a large family, you need a will. Do you want four people trying to decide what to do with your house? Maybe they don’t live near you, how will they take care of your home while they are arguing over what to do with it?

If you don’t have children, you need a will so that your spouse will get everything. Otherwise, your spouse might be only partial owner of things like your house and car. Only when everyone agrees, your things will be able to be sold.

If you want to give money to charity, you definitely need a will. You can explain exactly what charities that you want to give money to and how much. This will be followed.

You can name an executer in your will. This person will be in charge of paying off your debts, selling things, and basically finishing everything up. This makes sure that there is no fighting and things are not forgotten.

Having a will is very important, though most people do not realize how important it is. You need to make sure that your children will be taken care of, in the event of your death. You also do not want your family fighting over your things, even if there is not a lot left. Contact our Torrance estate planning attorneys today to set up your will and help your family!
